Stunning yellow-orange color in this rare, faceted apatite. Apatite is a fairly brittle, soft stone (hardness of 5); therefore, rarely is it faceted. Sold to me as topaz (due to the color, my seller was thrown off). However, with a specific gravity of 3.714 and a refractive index of 1.63, it is now a verified apatite. Bar cut, it weighs 1.30 carats and measures 9.62 x 3.98 x 3.25 mm deep. It is a good candidate for a tourmaline set pendant (order the medium depth, not shallow). Photographed close up to show inclusions and issues typical with apatite.
